Welcome to Mrs. Dewey's Class!
My name is Melyndee Dewey, your English teacher!
I love everything about this county, from the kind students I teach to the down-to-earth personalities of community members, to the beauty of this land--especially the many running trails I've been able to venture on!
Speaking of running, I love a nice, brisk jog in gorgeous territory, and coach cross country during the fall (and if you don't have a fall sport and are interested in becoming involved in your school, check it out! It's awesome). I've also completed two marathons, one in 2007 and one in 2013. This summer, I raced a half marathon relay with a rubber chicken as a baton--in Calaveras County. This area indeed has much to offer!
I grew up in various towns, a few tiny in Northern CA (Loyalton and Fall River), and then moved to Woodland for my pre-teen and teen years, a larger town outside of Sac and near Davis. I graduated as valedictorian of Woodland High School, and went on to The Master's College in Santa Clarita, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and a minor in Bible (I even spent a semester in Israel for some credits--talk about a cool experience!).
Most significant to you, I am passionate about teens and your well-being, and love teaching English! It was my own high school teachers that inspired me to be here today, and it is the students I teach that keep me coming back! There's something special about teaching kids that they can do more than they think they're capable of, and there's something special about the celebration of learning when kids "get it." And...it's fun!
Thank you for visiting my site, and thank you for your diligence this year!
